CREATIVE & DESIGN:
For Oslo Hackney, Zopsigog looked upon the theatrical nostalgia of Norwegian folklore. “A fairy tale of oceans, forests and mythical creatures” This would be a subtle yet intriguing backdrop to a venue providing the latest in food, drink and music.
Built as a railway station in 1870, Zopsigog decided that simply dressing and accentuating this beautiful piece of architecture with the envisaged story was all that Oslo Hackney needed. This historical character provided us with a great starting point for showing off the grand high ceilings, exposed original brickworks and impressive Victorian arched windows. The name enabled us to take this stately piece of London history and reinvent it with a life and character unusual and artistic enough to suit its local community of creative minds. Collaborating with Illustrator Jon Powell he produced a set of bespoke artwork to give a glimpse and absorb the story into the space.
Oslo = freshness and capture of fishing, Oslo = folklore that surrounds its woodlands. The design details as seen in these images are a taste of the entire picture. We thrive on the craftsmanship of simple materials, raw edges and nostalgic previous use. Moving away from the conventional trends of factory industrial we use the laying of raw oak slabs, delicate reeded glass and the softness of large velvet curtains and flowing linen shades to give a sense of faded grandeur - true to the buildings era. Oslo will be a significant new arrival in the dynamic and burgeoning area of Hackney Central.
